I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat down and tried to write a blog post over the past couple of months, the amount of false starts I have saved in my drafts is truly obscene. But here you have found yourself at last – finally reading a new post after many weeks of silence.
As I seem to have often found myself doing throughout my blogging career, I thought I’d ease myself back in talking about what I know best, myself. So let me update you on what’s going on in my life and give you an idea of what’s to come on here and over on YouTube over the next few months!
Spreading the Foodie Love
So it’s summer and it’s gloriously sunny, and I’m feeling pretty damn good about a lot of wonderful things going on in my life. My (relatively) recent success creating a vegan version of the Royal Wedding cake for PETA UK left me full of happiness with the knowledge that wonderful food is an excellent way of spreading a positive vegan message. I’ve since been able to embrace a few more opportunities that have kept me spreading that vegan love (and kept me eating lots of tasty treats), such as working with the likes of Greedy Lama and Slabb Chocolate and incredibly excitingly, this month’s Vegan Kind box will feature a recipe from yours truly!
Next up, I’d really just like to congratulate myself for staying consistent with exercise for such a long period of time. I’ve been weightlifting regularly now for just under a year, hitting around 3-5 sessions per week. It’s easy to become demotivated when you try and stick to an exercise routine and I think this can actually be exacerbated by “motivational” instagram accounts – I know I’m not alone in this as I’ve seen many people express similar feelings, but I began to find constantly looking at other people’s progress photos simply made me doubt my own progress. Whilst I’ve clearly gained both muscle and strength, my “progress” seemed nowhere near as drastic as many of the girls I follow and rather than feeling proud of myself for what I’d achieved I just started to feel like I wasn’t achieving enough.
Anyway, long story short, I’ve laid off the insta fitness accounts a bit (although I can’t deny I do still love a gander at a pretty gal in some snazzy gym wear every now and then) and I’ve tried to focus on my own achievements and where I want to progress going forward. This has led to me changing up my workouts, trying to figure out what I actually enjoy best rather than just following certain workout splits because it’s what the hot girl on insta does to get a nice bum. I’ve slowly begun incorporating running back into my routine, which truly releases endorphins like no other exercise (except perhaps smashing a deadlift PB) and I’ve discovered that my cardio fitness is nowhere near as bad as I anticipated (yay!).
Family Time & Wonderful Vegan Finds
I recently spent the weekend in the Peak District with the most wonderful collection of people (that would be my mum, dad, sister and boyfriend ✨). We walked, hot tubbed, ate delicious food and generally had a beautiful time. I was excited to find that the small town near where we were saying had an array of readily available vegan options – there was no feeling awkward as I tried to fathom what I could veganise off the restaurant menus, they all had clearly labelled and delicious vegan options. This does of course have something to do with my lovely mumma researching suitable places beforehand, but it was a genuinely freeing feeling to have so many options in such a small place; veganism has truly hit the mainstream in 2018. This trip deserves it’s very own blog post after I’ve had a chance to get round to editing the photos!
I’ve got Alice’s graduation coming up later this month which I just can’t wait for – I’ve used up my remaining annual leave at work to take a week off which means I’ll get to spend time in both Norwich and London; there’ll definitely be lots of vegan delights to eat and hopefully a couple of videos filmed as well! Then at the start of August I’ll be back at home for some more family time, preparing for what’s to come next…
What’s Coming Next…
The grand finale. Leaving the best ’til last and all that. Not that it’s new information if you know me or follow me on basically any social media because it’s not exactly something I’ve been quiet about, but yes, I am leaving my job and going TRAVELLING. It’s a cliche for a reason isn’t it? I hope it is anyway, as I’m pretty darn EXCITED. Me and that wonderful VGANG boyfriend of mine are finishing our jobs at the end of July allowing ourselves a month to get our lives in order before jumping on a flight to Japan at the start of September. After exploring Japan, we’re heading to Hong Kong, then on to Chiang Mai which will be our base for a few weeks whilst we chill out and try to catch up on some photo and video editing! We then intend to make our way around the rest of South East Asia before heading to Australia to settle down for a while and hopefully meet up with our faves, Ellen & Craig of Howay the Herbivores.
If you have been to any of these places, pleaaaase drop me a comment or message me over on Twitter or Instagram to let me know any tips or recommend any fab vegan eats! I can’t wait to share with you our experiences (both good and bad!) of travelling and finding delicious food along the way, make sure you’re subscribed to my YouTube as there will be many an exciting video as my life completely changes!
If you’ve made it this far, thank you so much for taking the time to catch up with me – let me know what’s going on in your life in the comments! It appears I may have missed writing as this post is around four times as long as I was intending it to be, but it felt nice to have my fingers tap tapping away and be utterly self-absorbed for a good hour. Catch you next time 👽
