Located on Brick Lane in London, Mooshies burger bar is quirky and inviting as you step inside. With brightly painted murals on the walls and simple wooden benches to sit at, it’s got an edgy but relaxed vibe. Burgers are the order of the day, with a simple menu of 4 different concoctions (beef/phish/pulled jackfruit/limited edition) plus a selection of delicious sides. The burgers are priced from £7.50 to £8.50 and the sides, £3.50 – £4.50, pretty reasonable if you ask me – especially considering that you’re in London after all.
After heading to the counter to order two “what’s your beef?” burgers, cheezy sweet potato fries and a side of guac, we settled down at our window seat and eagerly anticipated our grub. As you would hope (and expect) in fast-food style restaurant, the food came out fairly sharpish – it could have probably been a little quicker given that there weren’t many customer’s in, but that could have just been my impatient empty stomach talking and a desire to get back out the door to get to the theatre in time for Wicked!
The “what’s your beef?” burger was made up of a quinoa and black pean patty, with cheese, gherkins, lettuce, caramelised onions and Mooshies’ burger sauce. It was filling and delicious, but I did struggle somewhat with the actual eating of the burger, as the patty was soft, rather than meaty and so it didn’t hold together very well when I started picking it up and eagerly trying to demolish it.
The chunky, flavourful guacamole was served with a big pile of plantain chips which I was happy about as I love plantain. For some reason I was slightly apprehensive about the cheezy sweet potato fries – don’t get me wrong, I love sweet potato fries, and I love regular cheezy fries, I just wasn’t sure how well the two concepts would combine. Well I needn’t have been concerned because they were bloody delightful and we managed to wolf them all down in no time.
As we had to race off to the theatre we didn’t get a chance to sample any of the Vida Bakery treats that they sell for dessert, but they sounded delicious! The relaxed atmosphere, ample portion sizes and the quick and friendly service made this the perfect pit stop to fill our hungry bellies for the rest of the evening.
