Tea and Treats

Tea Sutra is, without a doubt, one of my favourite little haunts in Newcastle.

I discovered this place in my first year of uni and have been returning again & again ever since. It’s the perfect place to visit by yourself when you want some headspace, the raised platform in the corner covered in cushions is the best place to settle down and get stuck into a book (just remember to take off your shoes!).

All of their food & cakes are 100% vegan and there’s a whole menu of different teas to choose from. I love to get the Chai of the day, a milky, spicy, infusion which flavour changes regularly (served in a super cute insta-worthy elephant teapot), with a slice of cake – their lemon & raspberry is the best I’ve tried so far. If you’re not a tea lover then you’re covered with herbal and fruit infusions which can even be served iced.

If you’re a bit more peckish and a slice of cake won’t cut it, they offer lunches such as wraps, soups & salads through the day, and main meals like chilli and curries later on. I think I’m addicted to the roasted squash wrap, which I usually get with a bowl of soup on the side, because why choose one or the other when you can have BOTH. This comes with a delicious pile of salad on the side (I swear I don’t know what they do to it to make it so tasty), and is a great value city centre lunch at £7.

Find this cosy tearoom at 2 Leazes Park Road in the city centre and reeelax.
